Plugboards. This is an apparently little used resource available to us entrepreneurs and crafty online business owners. So I though I would enlighten. You hear a lot in the craft world and on Etsy about CraftCult and Project Wonderful ads, but did you know there is a more budget friendly option available?
Plugboards are free. You can find some by searching "free plugboards" on Google. My favorite is to search "free work at home mom plugboards" because they are family friendly, and right up my alley. (Beware: Free plugboards that don't adhere to famiy friendly rules will most likely be swamped by porn site ads - not the sort of ad neighbors you want.) Plugboards are usually either in button (A teeny 88 X 31 pixels) or banner (larger 468 X 60 pixels) format.

Here's what you do:
1. Narrow down which sites and plugboards you want to advertise on, taking note of which format they use.
2. Create a plugboard ad. Or hire an awesome graphic design professional like myself to make you one.
3. Upload your lovely new plugboard ad to a photo host like photobucket or flickr. Copy the "Direct Link" URL.
4. Revisit the plugboard you want to use, and paste the image URL. Type in your website or Etsy shop URL you want the image to point to when someone clicks on it. Submit.
5. Viola! Reap the benefits of increased traffic!
Note that plugboards are rotating, and your ad will eventually "fall off" as more businesses submit theirs, so check back and resubmit once your "plug" has fallen off.
